Choosing a Summer Camp for Your Gymnast

summer camps for gymnasts

Thinking of attending gymnastics camp this summer? No idea where to start?! Look no further, we’re sharing information on some of the most popular camps for gymnasts. No matter what your skill level, age or preferences, there's a perfect camp for you!

Woodward Gymnastics Camp
Woodward is a sleepaway summer camp with locations on both the east and west coasts. Geared towards all skill-levels and abilities, campers are split into groups by their level to get the most effective training.

Each day of camp has a different theme, encouraging the campers to dress up and partake in the day’s events with their friends and cabin-mates. There is one morning practice every day as well as an optional open-gym workout in the afternoons.

Woodward camps run from June until the end of August.

International Gymnastics Camp
IGC is a unique camp in that it has five different gyms on-site, all dedicated to artistic gymnastics! IGC is currently the longest running summer gymnastics camp- having opened in 1971! Each summer, IGC brings in “celebrity” coaches in the form of former Olympians, Elite gymnasts, National Team Members and/or college coaches and judges. Campers will have the chance to work with these celebrity coaches and learn from them over the course of their time at camp. This year IGC’s celebrity coaches include Nastia Liukin, Gabby Douglas and Svetlana Boginskaya.

IGC is geared towards all abilities, with an emphasis on challenging the gymnasts but not pushing campers past their limits.

Ranging from $1,395 to $1,445 (depending on the week) IGS is located in Stroudsburg, PA and runs from June 16- August 17, 2019.

Flip Fest
Located in Crossville, Tennessee, Flip Fest was opened in 2003 by Olympians John Macready and John Roethlisberger. Flip Fest campers enjoy two gymnastics workouts per day as well as hiking, ropes courses, tubing on the lake, beach-side activities, and much more!

As the only gymnastics summer camp currently run by two Olympians, Flip Fest’s staff is comprised of former and current National Team Members, Olympians, and the highest-level coaches in the country. Your camper will get tips and tricks from their favorite gymnastics super-stars.

Flip Fest runs from the last week of May through the first week of August.

This year’s special guest coaches include the likes of Blaine Wilson, David Durante, Jordyn Wieber, Shawn Johnson and many more! For more information on Flip Fest or to see who the guest star is for your week of camp check out their website.

All of the above-mentioned camps are great for athletes of any skill-level. If your gymnast is looking for something more serious consider attending a camp run by the college of their choice! Attending any gymnastics camp this summer will benefit your gymnast in increasing their skill-development, making lifelong friends, and learning from their idols. Check out their websites and see what suits your gymnast best!

Wearing comfortable and fashionable leotards will surely make any summer camp experience more fun and inspirational. How many leotards will your gymnast need?

Is she's going to a recreational day camp? She'll need at least 3 leotards.
Is she going to a sleepover camp? She'll need 7-10 leotards.
Is she going to a college hosted camp? She'll need 7-10 leotards.
