UCLA’s Katelyn Ohashi’s viral floor routine: JOY!

2018 NCAA and Pac-12 Floor Exercise Co-Champion, Katelyn Ohashi, has a new floor routine this season! And in only her 2nd competition this season she’s already earned a perfect 10.0 and the floor routine has gone viral with over 50 million views and counting!

Ohashi, a former Elite gymnast who once beat out Simone Biles to become the 2013 American Cup Champion, was a four-time U.S. National Team Member before dropping back to Level 10 in 2015 following shoulder and back injuries.

In a 2018 interview with The Player’s Tribune, Ohashi said that it took her “finding Miss Val and UCLA, a different goal and path to follow, to finally find joy and love within the sport again.” Ohashi joined UCLA and the Bruin family in 2015 on a full athletic scholarship to become the Pac-12 Freshman of the week 4 times.

Now, in her Senior year at UCLA, Ohashi’s joy for gymnastics is apparent. Maybe it’s the way her coaches, teammates, and fans all dance to her floor routine. Or perhaps it’s the infectious smile on her face throughout a routine that’s full of tremendous difficulty. But one thing is clear, Ohashi has...
found love and joy again in gymnastics and it radiates throughout every one of her performances.

UCLA’s head coach, Miss Val (Valorie Kondos Field), announced last year that this will be her last season coaching her Bruins. This season will also be Ohashi’s last, as she will graduate in 2019. Already off to an incredible start, it will be fun to watch this dynamic duo throughout this NCAA Season... FINDING JOY IN DOING WHAT THEY LOVE.
