Donating Masks to Youth Empowerment Organizations
Your mask purchase makes a difference.
We are donating masks to organizations working to empower and uplift youth.
Six months ago, when the pandemic began crashing into everyday life, we wrote about being shaken to our core values. Personally and professionally, we asked ourselves What matters most in the face of this disaster? To answer, we returned to Destira’s Core Values to help ground ourselves and make a path forward.
With all that has happened between March and now (and, wow it’s been a lot) a key theme that comes up again and again is Do The Right Thing by developing new programs that help support and sustain our community, as well as our business.
We launched an Affiliate program, earning gyms commissions on every sale made through our website just by sending customers our way. We created the United 2020 Fundraising program, which to date has generated over $18,000 for our participating partners.
And we started making face masks — a brand new product that we could not have predicted — both for the health of our business and for the health of the community. Since launch, we have committed to donating one mask for every three pack sold to a youth empowerment organization.
Face Mask Donations to Youth Programs in California and Georgia.
By the end of July, we had sold enough mask 3-packs to make donations of over 800 masks, and now that it’s nearly the end of August and we’ve launched some awesome new prints, that number is rising to new heights! Our first two donation partners are Project Avary in San Rafael, CA, and Cool Girls in Atlanta, GA.
July Donation: Ready-to-Dye Masks for Project Avary Summer Camp
Project Avary builds brighter futures for children with incarcerated parents by providing youth with a community of belonging, increased self-knowledge, and valuable life and leadership skills. They are committed to ending generational cycles of incarceration, one child at a time.
The capstone event of Project Avary’s Mentorship program is their annual summer camp and thankfully, they were able to hold camp safely in spite of the pandemic. To help make the masks into a fun activity, we sent “blank” masks made from 100% white cotton for the campers to tie-dye, turning each mask into a unique memento of summer camp, as well as a functional piece of community protection.
August Donation: Pink Chambray Masks for Cool Girls
Cool Girls is an Atlanta-based organization built around empowering girls to stop the cycle of poverty, low self-esteem, and teen pregnancy. They offer mentoring, STEM learning, fitness, nutrition, and conflict resolution as well as awarding scholarships to college and a path to higher education. All of the girls in their program attend Title 1 public schools and live below the poverty line; face masks may not be able to be a top spending priority with limited means. Cool Girls’ brand color is pink, so we made them hundreds of pretty pink chambray face masks.
Help Destira Continue to Donate Face Masks
There are two ways that you can help us continue to make donations of face masks:
-
Buy a 3-pack, or several. Grab a Design Your Own Face Mask pack and get crafty like the campers at Project Avary. Or pick up our new Hello Sunshine, Let’s Taco Bout It, Manhattan, or solid black mask packs. We drop new collections on the regular, so your mask game can stay stylish and fresh.
- Nominate organizations for future donations. We are always looking to be referred to new organizations to receive mask donations. Recipient partners need not be in the sphere of gymnastics. We are looking for 501(c)3 organizations that are working to uplift and empower youth in the United States. Please fill out our quick survey below to tell us who we should know about!
Show your support for organizations like Project Avary and Cool Girls by ordering a ready-to-ship mask pack. Every purchase makes a difference.
