Choosing the correct garments for gymnastics can seem like a daunting task - but that’s why we are here! The most important thing is that your gymnast is comfortable and able to move. Here is a few do’s and don’ts that gym parents can follow to make sure their child is set for class.
Do’s for Dressing Your Gymnast
It is important to make sure that your child is covered to their comfort. Many girls like wearing leotard along with a pair of girls’ gymnastics shorts or even a gymnastics unitard to ensure coverage on every event.
While it’s common for gymnast’s to compete in long sleeve leotards, many gymnasts find practices and classes to be more comfortable in tank style leotards. Tank leotards are more easily found on the market and offer great mobility for gymnasts of all ages.
Finding the right fit and size for your gymnast is going to be key for her comfort. Don’t be afraid to try on different sizes to ensure that she is ready to run, tumble, and swing in her brand new leotard and gymnastics workout shorts. And remember - Destira offers FREE first time exchanges to help you find the perfect fit.
Don’ts for Dressing Your Gymnast
Make sure to avoid loose and/or baggy clothing on your gymnast. You’ll notice that all gymnastics wear is typically form fitting as it makes it easier for coaches to spot your gymnast on different events as well as see her clearly when she is practicing.
On a similar note, it is also important to avoid leotards and gymnastics compression shorts that are too tight. Too tight clothing can restrict a gymnast’s mobility, as well a cause general discomfort throughout her practice.
